2016-17 RMEC Executive



Dan McLaughlin is the Religious Studies Coordinating Teacher at Calgary Catholic’s Bishop O’Byrne High School.  He is married to Lynne with three young children and has been active in the fields of Religious Education and Youth Ministry for more than 20 years.  



Carl Fakeley is a Religious Education teacher at Notre Dame High School in Red Deer and the Past President of the Religious and Moral Education Council. 



Nicolas Simoni is the Religious Education Coordinating Teacher at St. Timothy School in Cochrane, Alberta. Nicolas is a passionate religious educator who is married to Sarah and has five beautiful children.



LeeAnn Arsenault is the Faith Permeation Lead Teacher with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. She has recently completed her Master of Religious Education with Newman Theological College and is looking forward to spending her "free" time with her husband. 



Ron Baier is a lifelong educator who has enjoyed serving children, Catholic Education and the greater community the past 37 years as a teacher, coach, principal, school board trustee and board member of the Western Catholic Reporter. Ron takes great joy in preparing and planning our annual RMEC Conferences.



Dean Schneider is a Religious Education teacher at Clear Water Academy, in Calgary - part of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools. Now in his 17th year of teaching, he lives in Cochrane, Alberta with his amazing wife & kids.


Margaret Smerdely is the Elementary Dean of Students for Clear Water Academy, in Calgary - part of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools. She is an enthusiastic new member of the executive.



Warren Kirilenko teachers all levels of Religious Education at Bishop O'Byrne High School in Calgary.  He has managed websites relating to his interests in photography and hydroponics for many years.


Cynthia Malner-Charest works from the ATA's Southern Alberta Regional Office and has been a supporter of RMEC for many years.


Elaine Willette-Larsen is a member of the Provincial Executive Council of the ATA and has been a great supporter of RMEC for many years.
